Issues: Senior Citizen Issues
Senator Dick Elliott gets things done for seniors. He was the sponsor of the permanent facilities improvement legislation that today is building senior centers all across South Carolina, and providing more recreation opportunities for retired people. He has always been instrumental in increasing the homestead exemption for seniors, those on fixed incomes and disabled veterans. Last year he sponsored the recently passed bulk-buying prescription drug bill, cutting health care costs for seniors.
Dick is a strong advocate of improved transportation for seniors and better health care options for the future. Now he wants to assure that seniors are not bothered by unwanted telephone calls. He wants to return to Columbia and pass other legislation that will help senior citizens with issues such as nuisance phone calls, rip-off scams, shoddy workmanship, and unscrupulous individuals that prey upon seniors and the frail.
He supports homestead exemption and believes seniors should not be burdened with additional costs resulting from development.
