A History of Accomplishment

Dick Elliott has been a South Carolina senator since 1992 and State representative for the 10 years prior. He served with 100% attendance each day the House was in session for 10 years, an unparalleled record in the history of South Carolina, and he has continued to work with the same commitment and dedication during 12 years in the state Senate. Dick's leadership gives this region a voice statewide.

His political career afforded him the opportunity to sponsor the Education Improvement Act; ensure classroom construction at Francis Marion University, Coastal Carolina University, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, and public school buildings; and sponsored legislation guaranteeing funding for senior citizens' centers locally and statewide. He also sponsored the room tax bill so helpful in tourist areas to hold down property taxes.

Dick Elliott was instrumental in the founding of NESA, the North Eastern Strategic Alliance. NESA promotes the development of a 10 county area of the state, including the Pee Dee and Waccamaw regions, the Grand Strand and Georgetown. The alliance fosters public and private partnerships that address vital issue such as education, infrastructure and economic development.

Dick's public service experience speaks for his commitment to leading the area toward a promising future: Ocean Drive Beach City Council; Horry County Council; United Way of Horry County board; Grand Strand Water and Sewer board; former chairman of Horry-Georgetown-Williamsburg Planning Services Administration; North Myrtle Beach Ocean Drive Planning and Development board; Area III Vocational School board; Chairman of the North Myrtle Beach School Board of Trustees; Board of Visitors, Presbyterian College; Horry County Airport Commission; and the Waccamaw Regional Planning Council.

He has also served on the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce; National Bank of South Carolina's Advisory Board for the North Myrtle Beach Region; and as the Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church's assistant Sunday School Superintendent and member of the Board of Deacons. Dick Elliott is a Mason, a Shriner, a member and past district governor of the Lions Club, served on numerous business boards, and is a past president of the North Myrtle Beach Jaycees.
